# Unai Emery wants Aston Villa to work more after disappointing draw

**Unai Emery believes Aston Villa still have plenty of work ahead despite extending their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five matches.**

The [Aston Villa](https://readastonvilla.com/tag/aston-villa/) boss was left disappointed with the result against Fulham but admitted a draw was a fair result of the game.

Aston Villa have now won three and drawn two of their last five [Premier League](https://readastonvilla.com/tag/premier-league/) games, showing signs of improvement after their difficult start to the campaign.

## **Unai Emery gives honest assessment of Villa’s performance**

Unai Emery highlighted that Aston Villa struggled to maintain their first-half levels after the break, which allowed Fulham to take control and create opportunities.

“We still have work to do. The last five (league) matches, we won three matches and we drew two matches. I think it’ not bad but with our poor stats, it is not enough,” Emery said after the game, [as quoted by Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/live-blog/13025491/aston-villa-transfer-news-rumours-and-gossip-live-updates-and-latest-on-deals-signings-loans-and-contracts).

The dropped points were frustrating for Emery and Aston Villa but he accepted that Fulham deserved something from the contest.

“This draw is a disappointing result but a fair result. I think they deserved it as well, this draw.”

“It was tough for us in the second half, more than the first half.

“Second half, we knew we should try to play in the same way as in the first half, but they dominated more in the second half, they created chances and they scored a goal.

“We created some chances and we could have even won the match, but I think it was a fair result.”

## **Aston Villa turn attention to Barcelona and Man Utd**

Villa cannot afford to spend too much time reflecting on the result, with another important test coming up in the Champions League.

Unai Emery wants his players to quickly put the draw behind them as they prepare to face Barcelona on Tuesday before travelling to Manchester United in their final fixture before the international break.

“We need to keep going forward and change quick our mind before the next match on Tuesday in the Champions League against Barcelona, and then we are going to prepare the next match before the break which is Manchester United away, so we keep going forward.”

The Manchester United fixture is particularly important as reports suggest Michael Carrick has only till the international break to turn things around. A defeat against Villa may put the last nail in his United career. Unai Emery is tipped to be one of the names set to replace him, while [sources indicate he is open to a move to Manchester United](https://readastonvilla.com/2026/11/01/unai-emery-manchester-united-manager-shortlist/).
