Aston Villa have a lot of unwanted players in the first-team squad that Steven Gerrard has been tasked with moving on – Lovre Kalinic, Frederic Guilbert, Morgan Sanson, Anwar El Ghazi, Keinan Davis and Wesley Moraes. The 41-year-old has been proactive this summer, releasing Ashley Young on a free transfer, selling Matt Targett to Newcastle […]
Steven Gerrard has wasted little time parting company with deadwood from the Aston Villa squad – Matt Targett was sold to Newcastle United, Conor Hourihane was released and Ashley Young was released. The Villa manager isn’t done there, however, with Fanatik (h/t Sport Witness) revealing that Trezeguet could be the fourth player to leave this […]
Tim Iroegbunam is one of a handful of Aston Villa players that will report late to pre-season training as he’s been representing England U19s, so Steven Gerrard has extra time to decide what to do with the 18-year-old ahead of the new campaign. Since joining from West Bromwich Albion in 2021, Iroegbunam has quickly gone […]
Frederic Guilbert doesn’t appear to have a future at Aston Villa despite reporting for pre-season training at Bodymoor Heath and Ashley Preece has given an update for Birmingham Live on Steven Gerrard’s plans for the 27-year-old which all but ends his hopes of playing for the Midlands outfit again. Preece says Gerrard is ‘keen to […]
Despite having Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings, Cameron Archer and Keinan Davis in attack, Steven Gerrard wants to bring another striker to Aston Villa this summer. Calciomercato say the Midlands outfit are trying to sign Moise Kean from Everton ahead of next season, but it’s hard to see them making a move given he’s flopped at […]
Keinan Davis looked on his way out of Aston Villa this summer after a successful loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but the 24-year-old may not be joining the Reds permanently now, so he’s due to report to Bodymoor Heath for pre-season training. Davis struggled for goals in the top-flight and found himself behind Ollie Watkins […]
Aston Villa’s players are reporting for pre-season training ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and Steven Gerrard is tasked with running the rule over a number individuals with uncertain futures. Jaden Philogene-Bidace is one of them, as he may not get into the first-team next season, so a decision needs to be made. The 20-year-old has […]
The Premier League confirmed in their 2021/22 retained list on June 10 that Ashley Young had been released by Aston Villa. The 36-year-old made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, grabbing two assists. It seems a strange decision to let him go, as Young was a useful squad player that could deputise for any […]
Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live says Lovre Kalinic is expected to report for pre-season training next week, but the 32-year-old’s future at Aston Villa is up in the air after spending the last 18 months out on loan. Kalinic joined Villa on a four-year deal from KAA Gent in 2019 and has gone on to […]
Wesley Moraes fell down the pecking order at Aston Villa after suffering a long-term knee injury and was loaned out upon his recovery, but his temporary stints at Club Brugge and Internacional didn’t go to plan, so his future is up in the air this summer. The 25-year-old joined Brugge on loan last season but […]
Frederic Guilbert’s loan spell at Racing Strasbourg has come to an end and the 27-year-old is expected to report for pre-season training at Bodymoor Heath next month. The uncapped French defender has been short of playing time for the Claret and Blues and isn’t likely to dethrone Matty Cash at right-back next season, so Steven […]
Aston Villa were linked with Kalvin Phillips this summer as Steven Gerrard needed a defensive-midfielder, but it appeared they were giving up on their pursuit as Manchester City were leading the race for his signature. That still remains the case with Phillips being open to a move to the Etihad Stadium, but Football Insider say […]
