## Johan Manzambi at Aston Villa

Initially, Villa signed Manzambi from Freiburg in July 2026. Specifically, reports placed the club-record fee at around £59.5m. Consequently, that fee set a new Villa transfer record. Additionally, he joined a midfield already featuring captain [John McGinn](https://readastonvilla.com/squad/john-mcginn/). Meanwhile, Villa had beaten his Freiburg side in the 2026 Europa League final.

Subsequently, a knee injury from the World Cup delayed his start. Therefore, he missed the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain in August. Presently, he has yet to appear for Villa in the league. Moreover, the club has not confirmed a return date. Ultimately, his Villa career starts once he completes his rehabilitation.
