Ashley Westwood, from League 2 Crewe, winning the play off final to shooting down the M6 to Birmingham for a deadline day move to Aston Villa – but the interesting thing is, Westwood didn’t even know his salary until he sat down and read the contract after signing.
Westwood was desperate for a chance for Premier League football, his agent convinced him to hold out for a top club when Peterborough came swooping, that chance duly given when Villa called on deadline day.
Since then, Westwood has pushed on being within touching distance of the starting 11, or in fact on the team sheet – he has proved to be efficient under Tim Sherwood.
A man that took a risk from League 1 and has managed to bag himself a chance to play in a FA Cup final.
