John Delaney, head of the Football Association in Ireland has said today that he hopes Villa’s Jack Grealish chooses Ireland to represent internationally.
The Villa youngster was called up to the Ireland squad by Martin O’Neill but rejected the chance to play for the country, charging speculating that he was more keen on an England call up.
“I think he’s looking for a bit of space and a bit of time, i think all of a sudden – having not played for Aston Villa and now played 5 or 6 games, it’s all a lot to take on maybe” John Delaney said, speaking to the BBC.
“if i was advising him i would of course tell him to come and play for us, i think he’d have a great career with us and win more caps with us but ultimately its only Jack who can make that decision himself.”
Grealish qualifies for England through being born in Birmingham in England and Ireland, through his Grandfather.
Grealish has represented the Ireland at under 21 level 6 times.
