Matt Lowton, one of Paul Lambert’s first signings is the 2nd to get the chop by Tim Sherwood as the right-back is to have a medical at Burnley according to the Telegraph.
Lowton was a ever present in his first season at the club, scoring twice and appearing 45 times – showing his ability to play a ball forward and cross the ball. However, in the season just gone – he fell out of favour as Alan Hutton became first choice right back after signing a new deal. Also, the signing of Bacuna filling in at right-back to injury and performing well saw Lowton fall futher down the pecking order.
Chances came few and far between and out of position, filling in at Left-back and center-back, two awkward positions for the former Sheffield United man.
Villa are expected to receive around £2.5m from Burnley for Lowton, but it is understood that that figure may not all be Villa’s due to the initial transfer to Aston Villa from Sheffield United, with clauses and payments still outstanding and any profit made off the transfer.
Lowton will be remembered for the match winning volley against Stoke City which essentially saw us safe under Paul Lambert.
