Nicklas Helenius is set to rejoin his former side Aab Aalborg permanently after only 2 seasons at Aston Villa, with one of them being at loan with Aalborg – the striker has told local Aalborg paper NordjskeSport.
The striker was a highly rated youngster from Denmark when he joined, scoring 34 goals from 95 appearances after joining the senior side at Aalborg.
Helenius joined for £1.2m, understood to be depth for Benteke and replacement for the phased out Darren Bent, however with only limited chances in the first time, and a life threatening sickness bug – his Premier League dream didn’t go to plan.
Villa agreed to send him back to Aalborg on loan to get his career back on track after a torrid first season and lack of opportunities and it seems Aalborg will be getting a cut price deal on the Danish striker.
This is another one of Paul Lambert’s signings that haven’t worked out for Villa, along with Tonev, recently ousted Sylla and Karim El Ahmadi who left the club under Lambert.
