The saga rumbles on over Christian Benteke, with Liverpool caving into Aston Villa’s asking price of £32.5m, desperate to sign a Premier League proven striker, according to the Express and Star.
Benteke has been heavily linked with Liverpool all summer, with reports across the country suggesting he is destined for Anfield but for Villa and Liverpool haggling over a fee.
The Belgium international and his agent have angled towards a move away from Birmingham to a club that can compete for Europe or are already in Europe.
It seems that this summer is the right time to sell for Aston Villa with the right price on the table, and a new backroom set up to help bring and scout quality replacements – for example the impending arrival of Idrissa Gueye.
The Express and Star report the deal could be done as early as this week.
