Fabian Delph is expected to sign for Manchester City as early as tomorrow according to the Daily Mail.
Delph’s £8m buy-out clause has been activated by the oil-rich club and is seemingly set to join the Citizens.
It comes weeks after the Mirror reported that when Delph signed a new deal at Villa in January a £8-million buyout clause was part of the contract.
When Delph does sign for City it will mark the end of a mixed 6-year spell at Villa which started when he joined during the Martin O’Neill era in 2009. A serious knee ligament injury put Delph out for nine months it was then followed up by a serious ankle injury less than twelve months later.
Since the injury Delph has gone on to become a true fan favourite leading Villa to the FA Cup final and Premier League survival as well as the famous quote amongst Villa fans of, “I love the club, I love being here and I want to put 100% into everything I do here. This is my club” when he signed his new contract at Villa Park.
Bitter Taste
The move will leave a bitter taste in Villa fans mouths given the amount of support the fans gave to Delph over some lengthy injury spells. It is certainly an open wound he will leave especially after the comments he made in January.
