With the recent departure of Christian Benteke to Liverpool for £32.5 million, Tim Sherwood has been chasing Ghana international and Lorient number 9 Jordan Ayew. But who is Jordan Ayew?
Ayew began his career in France playing for AS Lyon-Duchère before being signed on a professional contract to Marseille in 2009, scoring on his debut. Jordan played alongside his brother André at Marseille but wasn’t much of a goal scorer due to being played out of his typical number 9 role. After only bagging 14 goals in 111 appearances for Marseille Ayew transferred to Lorient at the beginning of last season after an unsuccessful loan spell at Sochaux in where he only scored 5 times.
Ayew transferred to Lorient due to their style of football and was on top form last season bagging nearly a goal every 2 games. This has made him a highly-anticipated striker at only 23 years old.
Jordan Ayew enjoys supplying just as much as he likes scoring and shows this through his fantastic lay offs and dribbling moves, which are his strongest point. He can turn any chance into a goal using his playmaking and striking abilities. He managed 5 assists in the Ligue 1 last season which is extremely impressive for a number 9, he also completed just under 80% of his passes which is a stat that most midfielders would be jealous of.
All players have their disadvantages and Ayew’s disciplinary record isn’t exactly stellar with 8 yellow cards in all competitions last season. However, he does get fouled a lot which may be an explanation for his short temper.
All in all Ayew would be a solid addition to The Villans next season, he’s able to score and create the goals which Tim Sherwood’s men were missing last season and also supplies vital international experience into the dressing room.
