Aston Villa have signed centre forward Jordan Ayew from FC Lorient for around a £9 million deal.
The Ghana international has signed a 5 year deal with the Villans, after they finally pushed the deal through, as there were rumours that FC Lorient tried to up the price for Ayew and put the deal off. Jordan replied to that, by expressing his frustration that they would try to put the deal off to Villa, and he even declared he would go on strike with the French side if they were to call the deal off. Now it has finally gone through, Villa have officially started there signing spree upfront to replace Christian Benteke.
The 23 year old scored 12 goals in 29 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, and was FC Lorient’s top goal scorer as well. He also represented his national side, Ghana since 2010, and has played 28 games, and scored 8 goals in that time. At 23 years of age, he has still got plenty of room for improvement and the way he has already started his career, it would seem he can only keep getting better. It would seem from his statement earlier in the week, that he clearly wants to come to Villa and has already shown his desire to move to the Premier League side. The move to the Premier League could have also been highly recommended by his brother Andre Ayew, who has recently joined Swansea City this summer.
So the likely possibility of a player with high potential like Jordan Ayew, and an experienced goalscorer like Emmanuel Adebayor as a partnership, doesn’t seem too bad as a replacement for Benteke. But for Villa to buy these two forwards, it has to pay off with goals, as losing Benteke is a huge hit for Villa, and has to be replaced. Unless they want another relegation battle next season again unfortunately. Even though the Adabayor deal hasn’t gone through yet, the Ayew deal has been agreed, and Villa fans will be relieved to see Tim starting his recruitment to replace Benteke, as that seems to be the crucial area that Villa need to buy in this summer, and Ayew seems to be a good start to that.
