Aston Villa have finished 12th – in a Premier League tables based on social media interaction. The Official AVFC Twitter account received over 474,680 mentions in a 6 month period, which was then put into comparison with the club’s 471,000 followers – equalling just over 1 tweet per follower.
In the study by CrowdScores, they also analysed the sentiment of the tweets, figuring out if they are of a positive or a negative nature. Aston Villa followers nailed this down the middle – with Crowdscores analysing that for every positive tweet, a negative tweet was also being sent across to @AVFCOfficial.
Throughout the league, we managed to pip Chelsea FC to 12th – with the Premier League Champions receiving less than 1 tweet per follower, despite having almost 6-million followers from across the world.
Aston Villa fans also managed to finish above local rivals, West Bromwich Albion in the Twitter league table, with the Albion only managing to muster 0.6 of a Tweet per follower, seeing them narrowly avoid relegation from the top division finishing 17th. West Bromwich Albion fans also spoke more negatively about their club – with a the majority of tweets coming in to their twitter account being viewed as negative.
Leicester City were the surprisingly higher placed than Tim Sherwood’s side in the table. Their great escape grabbed tweets and positive attention to the club seeing them finish 11th, one place above Aston Villa.
