Aston Villa midfielder, Ashley Westwood has signed a new 5-year deal at the club, after impressing Tim Sherwood in his opening months in charge.
The former Crewe Alexandra captain’s new deal will see him stay at the club until 2020.
The central midfielder has been a mainstay of the club for three years and has been rewarded for his relegation saving performances towards the end of last season.
Westwood still had two years to run on his current deal, however with the West Anglian born player only set to improve as seasons go by, the club’s hierarchy were keen to tie the player down to a new deal to deter any future suitors.
Since joining from Crewe for a figure just shy of £1 million, he has gone on to be excellent value for money for the Villans.
Despite not having the flair of Fabian Delph or the influence of Ciaran Clark; Westwood regularly tops statistics for passing and interceptions, he may not have the flashiest role on the pitch but it is one of the most important.
