Aston Villa begin their home fixtures with a tricky test against Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United.
Aston Villa
The team news for the home team this weekend represents no real shocks.
Brad Guzan will remain in goal, with captain Micah Richards at the heart of the defence. One potential change could come up top after last week’s match winner Rudy Gestede impressed after coming on for Jordan Ayew.
The attacking midfield duo of Jack Grealish and Carles Gil are back in training but both are not ready to be considered for selection due to lack of match fitness. Jores Okore remains sidelined.
Manchester United
For the away side, Sergio Romero is set to continue in goal after Louis Van Gaal said David De Gea is “not in contention” for selection over his proposed transfer to Real Madrid. The United back four is also set to be the same, as new signing Matteo Darmian will continue alongside Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw with Phil Jones out injuried and Marcos Rojo not yet up to match fitness.
The one potential change could come in midfield with Bastian Schweinsteiger challenging for a first team spot with Michael Carrick whilst the attack is set to stay the same with Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay leading the line. Belgian midfielder Maroune Fellaini is still suspended due to his red card on the last day of last season.
