Aston Villa faced Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, a game which has produced some fine scorelines in recent years like last season’s 4-0 victory and the season before with Villa’s 6-1 victory over the Black Cats.
The game ended today with both sides taking a share of the spoils with Villa coming from behind to lead only for Jeremain Lens’ second-half strike to peg Tim Sherwood’s side back.
Sherwood’s team was looking slightly lightweight with Adama Traore, Gabriel Agbonlahor, and Jack Grealish all missing out through injuries and illness respectively.
Scott Sinclair was in fine form as he found the net twice. Once from the penalty spot and one with a goal scorers instinct after a fine piece of build-up which saw Sinclair finish from Jordan Amavi’s low cross.
Carlos Sanchez was a rock and an anchor in midfield while Gana was a key pivot in Villa’s dominant display. The Villans will certainly feel hard done by with Carles Gil denied a penalty that would have been contentious. Here is how the game played out in pictures.
