Aston Villa summer signing, Jordan Veretout has spoken about his move to Villa Park and how he had heard of Aston Villa since a child.
In a wide ranging interview with the press, Veretout spoke of his admiration for the Nantes president who turned down an offer from Leicester City for his services that was £3.5-million higher than the eventual amount Villa paid for the Frenchman. He said that he had ‘discussed the move with the President who gets on ‘very well’ with and that ‘he understood’ that he (Veretout) wanted a move to Villa Park.
The Nantes President, Waldemar Kita, said that Veretout was someone who, ‘never done us wrong, who played the game right until the end, and contrary to others, did not sulk’
‘I knew about Villa when I was young, a club that had won a lot of trophies and has a rich history.’
Veretout who found the net seven times in 36 appearances last season said that he chose his new club not on the ‘basis of money’ but for his future. He said that Villa ‘always attracted’ him and that “Aston Villa is a name. That was one of my main reasons. Then when I came to Aston Villa it just felt right and I knew I wanted to be here.”

The midfielder admitted that adjusting to life in England has been difficult, but he is now settling well with the English culture. Veretout’s wife recently gave birth to their first child which added to the early adaption to life in England. “It was very difficult at first because I wasn’t getting the sleep I was used to before – I had to get used to a new rhythm with the baby. Adding that “I need to take care of my family.”
“Sometimes she would wake up and I couldn’t sleep. It wasn’t always easy.
More recently though he has moved into a new house in England saying that they were ‘settling in nicely’ and that he was ‘getting the sleep’ he needed to find his ‘best form again.’
