Tim Sherwood has admitted that his side deserved to lose against West Brom earlier today and that he was left disappointed by the level of performance put in at Villa Park.
Speaking after the derby defeat, Sherwood stated: “West Brom deserved to win the game to be perfectly honest. We showed a little more appetite in the second period but didn’t create too many clear-cut chances. We are disappointed, but we know where the problems lie and we will try to put it right. I’m sure we will.”
The Villa boss has also admitted that problems still remain in terms of gelling the clubs 12 new signings. Yet although Villa have only picked up four points in six games, Sherwood defended the quality of recent performances, before saying that today’s game was an exception rather than the rule.
Sherwood stated that he, ”Recognised the problems at the moment and need to look at it again to make sure I’m not being too emotional. But it’s a transition period at this club”.
With The Villans just one place above the relegation zone, and having not won a game since their triumph at Dean Court on the opening day of the season. Sherwood still believes that his squad has enough quality and motivation to do more than just survive, citing that he “can look into the eyes of my players and know they are on side”.
Sherwood will have three days to make what improvements he can on the training field before welcoming arch-rivals Birmingham City in the Capital One cup on Tuesday. Following on from that is a trip to Anfield, to face a Liverpool team looking to shift up the gears and the league table.
