Birmingham City manager, Gary Rowett has stated that he knew the Villa starting XI prior to their third round Capital One Cup clash yesterday.
Rowett speaking to the press after the game said that he ‘actually knew’ the Villa side on Monday. Saying that it “often happens – you often get a little tip-off. Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re not.”
Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood was puzzled to hear that Rowett would even mention that he had previous knowledge of the starting squad especially since Villa pulled away with the 1-0 victory at home. He labelled the comments ‘strange’
Throughout the first half, Aston Villa was dominated by their local rivals to the point where the Villans were booed off at half time. After a loss to West Brom the previous Saturday, all the pressure was on Sherwood to show that his side could perform to their potential.
The only goal of the game came from Rudy Gestede in the 62nd minute with his header proving to be the deciding goal.
