Read Aston Villa’s Matt Lynch spoke to the manager of a French Aston Villa fan page about the Villan’s reputation in France and about Tim Sherwood’s summer transfers from across the channel.
Looking at our French Ligue 1 signings what do you make of them and are they all value for money?
Amavi and Veretout were very good players in Ligue 1 last season, honestly they were two of the best young players in the Championship. I wasn’t fond of Jordan Ayew. The form of Ayew was always in question even though his ability shone through at times.
Gueye is an experienced player, he played 134 Ligue 1 games and was part of LOSC that won the Ligue 1 in 2011. I think Villa have been paid to pay more than the players you have signed are worth though.
What is Villa’s fan base/reputation like in France?
The Villa fan base in France is very small, unfortunately. Most of the French Premier League football lovers are Manchester United or Arsenal supporters, but some real English football lovers are Aston Villa fans.
Looking at the French national side will Jordan Amavi be ready for a place at the Euro 2016?
Amavi can win his place in the national French team, but there are a lot of competition for the left-back spot. If I take Evra and Clichy off, the French side have Trémoulinas, Digne and Kurzawa as options. I can’t imagine Deschamps choosing Amavi instead of those players. Even if Amavi deserves it.

Why was Ayew’s form so erratic in France?
It’s difficult to explain why Jordan Ayew is erratic in form. He had some great patches at Marseille and Lorient but had some very bad ones at the same time. Bad attitude? Maybe.

Is there a star player in Jordan Veretout?
Honestly, and I’ve said it before, Jordan Veretout was an excellent midfielder in Ligue 1, the best Nantes player for most of the “Canaries” supporters. He’s fast, technical, and he can deliver some astonishing assists.
