Villa make bid for Bury youngster

ESPN are reporting that Aston Villa have made a bid for Bury’s young centre back Matty Foulds.

Foulds impressed in a Capital One Cup defeat to Leicester City in August, and has been on the bench in all of the club’s league matches since.

The youngster was not included in the match day squad in Tuesday’s Johnstone’s Paint trophy loss to Morecambe though, with manager David Flitcroft stressing the need to protect Foulds.

Speaking to Bury’s official website after the loss to Morecambe, Flitcroft said:

I’m protecting Matty, we’ve got some very good bids in for him now. It’s been bubbling along for a week now and some fantastic football Clubs want his services.

Everton are also understood to have made for a bid for Foulds, whilst Championship side Derby County are also said to be interested.

Flitcroft also said Foulds is ‘one of the best young centre-backs around’, whilst Bury’s official website describes the youngster as ‘a mobile centre back who reads the game well’.

Villa have struggled defensively this season, conceding 13 goals in eight Premier League matches, but it would be a surprise if Foulds was to immediately join up with the first team in any potential transfer.
