Defensive midfield is the key

Week on week I’m consistently becoming more and more frustrated by the lack of chance taken in our team selection. Garde seems to be picking teams stubbornly and without risk or invention.

Our defence is as fragile and permeable of any defence to be relegated. However, I believe the back four would be hugely improved by a little protection.

Needless to say Carlos Sanchez is one of the worst payers I have witnessed to call himself a defensive midfielder. Simply you have to read the game, make tackles and distribute. He has failed at all three consistently and commits the worst sin from your defensive protection; which is to give the ball away in dangerous places.

If we are not to buy a CDM in January then we must Look at our own ranks. The Sunderland game is crying out for such a selection.

Our options are Tiago llori who I’m lead to believe is a good defender, reads the game and is comfortable on the ball. If we are not willing to try him then what’s the point in signing him.

Gary Gardner, who seems to be destined not to be given another chance since big Eck and will no doubt end up on loan again. But yet played CDM for forest and was particularly effective, bringing set piece and goals to the team. He is a die-hard fan and may help to bring a team spirit which embarrassingly seems Non existent.

Jordan Lydon, Fresh, energetic and fearless, maybe a tad lightweight, though.

By no means is CDM the only position that needs looking at, however, I believe it may be the most effective to get right.

Our team is crying out for a shake up it is stale scared and looks individual, with no togetherness or leaders. Give a youngster a chance and I believe they will flourish and help lead our team to safety or more realistically a win!
