Another game without a win, another under-par performance from the current Motley Crew to don the Claret & Blue. If we had just drew 1-1 in the league it is clear to see that although it isn’t good enough anymore, the feelings of fans both in the ground and on social media would not be half as bad as they are.
But the fact that for almost three-quarters of the game we let Wycombe Wanderers of League Two outplay us, show more passion than us and overall highlight the frailties we have running deep throughout our current squad.
You would think after going 1-0 up to lower league position the 11 players (who have now not won in 109 days) on the pitch would see it as an ideal opportunity to go on and put on a show for the travelling fans who have once again travelled to support their team, I imagine any other team would do this, but before you get carried away, just try to remember that we are Aston Villa Football Club, a club where the word ambition means nothing and has done since the day Martin O’Neill left the club.
Ambition for the club nowadays only seems to relate to more prosperous kit deals, sponsorship links with deepest darkest China. For years, I have pitied clubs like Newcastle who are purely there to generate money and are comfortable to sit in the bottom half of the table and rake in profits from TV revenue year on year. It’s taken me a while but I can now see that Villa have become that club and it is a crying shame.
Abuse
Back on topic to the FA Cup tie. The aftermath on Twitter was the most vicious I have seen this season.
I think for a lot of fans, the performances of a certain Rudy Gestede, summed up everything that was wrong with the club, a lack of drive, passion and if I am brutally honest talent. You have to wonder what on earth Libor Kozak is doing wrong if he cannot even get a run out against Wycombe.
The abuse thrown at him in close quarters is unacceptable in my eyes but anyone with half a brain cell can see why tempers are being strained, week in, week out. The rumours of Gestede and Guzan telling fans to “F*ck off” if true shows the gulf in class between the pair and Micah Richards who approached the fans after the final whistle to talk like a civilised person.
All of this just accumulates and adds to the laughing stock that the club has become, the frequent fan videos doing the rounds on Twitter shouting abuse at the players just adds to fuel to this ever-growing fire.

The Championship
Another thing I would like to touch on is the general consensus from a large majority of our fanbase that we will bounce back at first time of asking from the Championship. When our impending relegation is confirmed and the club start to prepare for life in the Championship, whoever is in charge is going to have an incredibly hard re-building job to undertake.
Today’s side was a strong one and the brutal reality is that the players struggled. The manager who for some reason seems to be avoiding any criticism from a lot of fans is struggling. Mr Garde can say he knows what he’s doing all he wants if a team of his cannot finish off lower league opposition within 90 minutes then in my eyes, that is someone who DOESN’T know what he’s doing. Maybe that’s just me being overly critical.
Once thing I am sure about is that this club is a shambles at the moment, the calls for Nigel Pearson et al from some fans makes me laugh, What manager in their right mind would want to come to Aston Villa at the moment?
The club I was once proud to say I support is ruining every weekend for me, whether I attend the games or not. One thing is for sure, with every defeat comes a higher chance that we will completely smash Derby’s all time low points record of 11 points. What a time to be a Villa fan.
