To say that Jose Angel Crespo’s time in English has been underwhelming would be kind to the Spaniard, who has only featured twice for Aston Villa since he signed from relegated Cordoba in the summer.
According to Marca, Paco Jemez is looking to strengthen his Rayo side, a team which currently sits in 19th spot in La Liga. With Razvan Rat getting injured, strengthening the defence is a priority.
Rayo Vallecano have precedent in transforming so-called Premier League ‘flops’ into decent players. Alberto Bueno is by far the most successful, but Manucho, Javi Guerra, Pablo Hernandez, Antonio Amaya and Bebe all play for the Madrid-based side.

Something which is of huge importance to Paco Jemez is that the aforementioned Crespo has La Liga experience, having played for Cordoba last season.

When Marca asked about the potential interest from Rayo, Crespo stated that “I know there is interest, it’s in the hands of my representatives,”. The Spanish defender went on to say that “The situation here is not good. I’m not playing and I want minutes.”
Expect this move to be completed, especially as it would work for all parties. As with many La Liga sides, however, Rayo Vallecano do not have much money, and this is something Aston Villa would have to take into account.
