The latest rumour of this rather uninspiring transfer window this January is Nemanja Vidic.
The former Manchester United captain is available on a free transfer after having his contract at Inter Milan terminated after just over a year at the Italian giants. The MailOnline report.
It was apparent in Vidic’s last season at United that he wasn’t the player he was when he first came to ply his trade on these shores, however, there is still no doubting the man’s talent.
What perplexes me is the sheer arrogance of some fans to think that we are in a position to say no to a player of such quality being offered to us on a free transfer.
I have seen on social media, people saying we have better options, we should give youth a chance and so on and so forth. Are we really in a position to be giving untried youth players a chance? As we lie 20th in the league six points away from 19th placed Sunderland and ten points away from 17th placed Swansea, I somehow doubt that.
Central defence is somewhere we lack real quality in my opinion. Okore is talented and I am a big believer in him and I think he will be a very good player for us, Micah Richards as we all know is a right back as he lacks the positional discipline to play centre-back at this level and at times against Wycombe at home in the first half this was blatantly exposed once again.
Ciaran Clark is sub-standard in my eyes and has lived off that tackle on Jeffrey Schlupp in the FA Cup Fifth Round last season for far too long and if the rumours are true then Joleon Lescott may be heading off to sunnier shores.
If Vidic was brought in he wo bring in much-needed leadership, determination and most importantly, in my opinion, a winning mentality which is desperately lacking throughout Villa Park.
