It seems that Aston Villa’s Premier League status, something that it has managed to keep hold of for the whole of the league’s history, is coming to an end. After four years of flirting with relegation, it seems that it is all but confirmed that we will be plying our trade in the Championship next season.
Now, I’ve been an Aston Villa fan all of my life. I’ve had the privilege of sitting through the Martin O’Neill era at Villa Park and I remember the days of feeling the Holte End rocking beneath my feet because of the sheer joy and passion felt by those Villa fans after a win.
What us Villa fans understand when we’re in the stands is not just a good win for Villa, we feel where the club is going when we’re at Villa Park. We see the determination and the quality that is being composed on the pitch, we don’t just see a game of football, we see a state of Aston Villa, where the club is going, the trajectory.

I’ve never felt that same joy or anticipation at an Aston Villa game since, home or away. We all feared that something wasn’t quite right at our beloved club, with this season all but confirming the fears we didn’t want to believe.
Aston Villa for the past four years have not had enough quality on the pitch and more importantly, we haven’t got the quality in the corridors of power at the club for a very long time.
Although what I do know, home and away, rain or shine there will always be a Villan following to be proud of, even if we are destined for the second tier of English football.
