A howler from Brad Guzan saw Villa lose their sixth successive game, despite an improved performance by the visitors.
Villa were the better side during the first half at the Liberty Stadium and had numerous chances to take the lead, but failed to do so. Jordan Ayew had Villa’s first chance to take the lead, but after cutting in from the left and evading numerous challenges, his shot sailed way over the bar and failed to trouble Fabianski.
Remi Garde’s side continued to attack and Rudy Gestede had two good chances to put Villa in front. His first effort required a good save from Fabianski after he attempted to place header into the corner of the goal, whilst his second more audacious effort, an overhead kick, was cleared on the Swansea goal line by Ashley Williams.

The only negative of the first 45 minutes for Villa, was a yellow card for Aly Cissokho after he brought down Mo Barrow.
The second half began in much the same way the first half had unfolded, with Villa looking to create openings as they ventured forwards.
However, in the 54th minute, that all changed. Cissokho brought down Mo Barrow once again and was incredibly fortunate that Mike Dean didn’t produce a second yellow card.
The events that unfolded after Cissokho’s foul were comical. As Sigurdsson swung the free-kick into the Villa penalty area, Alan Hutton lost Fernandez, who he was supposed to be marking and then Brad Guzan made a complete mess of punching the ball clear, which allowed the ball to rebound off Fernandez and into an empty net.
Despite the additions of Green and Agbonlahor by Remi Garde during the second half, Villa failed to cause Swansea any problems and Swansea saw out the game and condemned Villa to their sixth straight defeat.
