A 2-1 defeat wasn’t enough to ensure Villa’s relegation to the Championship, due to Norwich suffering a 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
It was another limp, spineless performance from Villa, who only began to threaten Artur Boruc in the Bournemouth goal during the dying moments when Jordan Ayew scored a consolation.
Before then however, it had mostly been one-way traffic, with Grabban unlucky not to have put the visitors ahead in the first half.
However, Villa wouldn’t be able to see it through until half time, as Bournemouth’s central defender Steve Cook right on the stroke of half-time, flicked the ball past Guzan to put the Cherries ahead.
Despite the introduction of Rudy Gestede at half-time, Villa continued to over very little going forward and it was Joshua King who scored Bournemouth’s second after he dispossessed Ciaran Clark.
Unfortunately for Villa, Jordan Ayew’s late strike was too little too late and relegation now is set to be confirmed at Old Trafford next Saturday.
