Bernstein wanted Hodgson as Villa manager

David Bernstein wanted Roy Hodgson to become Villa manager, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Hodgson, who has been England manager since 2012, was pinpointed by David Bernstein as the man to lead Villa back into the Premier League next season.

However, due to Bernstein’s shock resignation last Monday, along with the resignation of fellow director Mervyn King, it is now incredibly unlikely that Villa will attempt to persuade the former West Brom manager to take over at Villa Park in the summer, despite his contract with England expiring after Euro 2016.

The current England manager has enjoyed a lengthy career in management, having managed Inter Milan and Liverpool, as well as having managed Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Finland.

The bookies favourite to take over at Villa Park is still Nigel Pearson, with the former Leicester manager considered the most suitable candidate by many fans and pundits alike to take over at Villa Park.

Would you have been happy to see Roy Hodgson become Villa’s next manager?
