Villa’s last Premier League game at Villa Park, for now at least, saw them hold Newcastle United to a 0-0 draw.
Villa, who came into the game off the back of a run of 12 straight defeats, made two changes from the defeat against Watford last weekend, with Carlos Sanchez and Scott Sinclair replacing Rudy Gestede and the suspended Aly Cissokho.
The first half saw neither side show any attacking threat, with Cisse wasting Newcastle’s best chance after his volley into the ground allowing Mark Bunn to save his shot with ease.
The second half saw the tempo increase slightly, with Jack Colback firing over the visitors in the early stages of the second half. However, Villa showed promise going forward themselves, with Jordan Ayew providing the main attacking threat for Eric Black’s side.

After the beach balls which had been thrown onto the pitch in the 74th minute had been cleared, Newcastle began to threaten more with Ciaran Clark blocking Wijnaldum’s shot with his face as Newcastle became more and more desperate to secure the three points.
However, Villa held on to secure their first point of Eric Black’s reign and ended an incredibly poor season at home with a spirited performance and a deserved point.
Villa’s dismal season concludes with a trip to London next Sunday, to face Arsenal at the Emirates.
