Black: I thought the result was harsh

Aston Villa caretaker manager, Eric Black, thought his side were hard done by after Villa were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates.

Villa, who picked up their first point of Eric Black’s reign last weekend against Newcastle United, were thoroughly outplayed in North London and were behind within five minutes thanks to Oliver Giroud.

It took Arsenal until the 78th minute to extend their lead, with Oliver Giroud once again finding the back of the net. Two minutes later and Giroud had his hat-trick and Arsenal still had time to get a fourth in injury time, when Mikel Arteta’s shot deflected off Mark Bunn into the back of the Villa net.

Speaking after the game to Villa’s website, Black said he thought the result was harsh, despite the facts suggesting otherwise.

I thought we contained them for a good 80 minutes.

We had a couple of enforced changes before the game.

We had two international players who have come out the back five.

But we stuck at it and not only that, I thought in the second half there was a period where we got Arsenal slightly on the back foot, which doesn’t always happen.

The players deserve a lot of credit for their efforts. It’s a 4-0 defeat and we take that on the chin. I thought it was harsh to be honest.

He also spoke about the injury sustained by Jordan Lyden and the absence of Ciaran Clark.

On Lyden:

He’s tweaked his meniscus a little bit I think.

On Clark:

He’s injured – probably another week or so. I would hope he’ll be okay for the Euros.

He did it in training on Tuesday.

Furthermore, he also spoke about the possibility of Villa bouncing back up to the Premier League at the first attempt.

I think it’s realistic due to the stature of Aston Villa, no question.

Obviously, there are on-going things in regards to the ownership and a new manager that comes in but I have no doubt that Aston Villa will be a massive club with a great opportunity to come straight back.
