The Recon Group which is owned by Dr Tony Xia have been confirmed as the new owners of Aston Villa.
In a statement posted on the club website, it states the sale is subject to Dr Xia and new board members passing the ‘fit and proper persons test’ as required by both the Premier League and Football League.
Furthermore, in the statement posted on the club website, it states that the club will announce the appointment of a new manager soon, with Roberto Di Matteo the favourite to become the next manager of Aston Villa after a turbulent season at Villa Park.
For Villa, it marks the end of Randy Lerner’s time as owner, which had seen Villa enjoy a return to European football and reach the League Cup final in 2010, before undergoing a turbulent six-year spell which saw many managers come and go before relegation was finally confirmed last month.
This hopefully marks the start of a bright future for Villa, just hopefully not the sort of ‘bright future’ which Lerner promised in May 2007.
