Villa are interested in securing the services of Steven Fletcher, according to the Sunderland Echo.
Fletcher, who spent the second-half of last season on loan at Marseille, was among a host of players released by Sunderland following the conclusion of the Premier League season.
Villa face competition for Fletcher’s signature, with Celtic and newly promoted Hull City also reported to be interested in signing the former Wolves forward.
Since moving to Sunderland in 2012 for £12 million, Fletcher struggled to find form in a side which frequently themselves in a relegation battle, scoring 23 goals in 102 games.
In his most recent loan spell, Fletcher spent January onwards playing for Marseille but struggled to adapt to the Ligue 1, scoring three times in 13 apperances for the French side.
Fletcher is not the first name to be linked to Villa since Roberto Di Matteo was announced as manager and he won’t be the last to be linked to a Villa side which is set to go under major changes this summer as Villa prepare for life in the Championship.
