Incoming director praises former chairman

Incoming Villa CEO Keith Wyness has praised the work done by former chairman Steve Hollis, after the former KPMG director left the club following Dr Tony Xia’s takeover.

Hollis, who was brought in as chairman by former owner Randy Lerner in January, had overseen a much needed restructuring of the club, with a number of senior staff leaving including ex-manager Remi Garde in March.

He also oversaw the departure of much maligned former CEO Tom Fox, along with Hendrik Almstadt, who was fired from his position as sporting director as a result of Villa’s disastrous transfer policy last summer.

In an interview with the Birmingham Mail, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness praised the work done by Hollis.

He said:

Steve has been great.

He did a very necessary job.

He’s the first to admit he’s not a football man but he’s done a very good job corporate restructuring.

He’s been a pleasure to deal with and very professional.

Wyness, who was CEO of Everton from 2004-2009, is widely expected to be announced as Villa’s CEO once the Football League have undertaken the necessary checks, with Chris Samuelson also waiting to pass the same checks before he is also announced as part of Villa’s new look board.
