Villa fixtures released ahead of new season

The fixtures for the 2016/2017 Championship season have been released, with Roberto Di Matteo taking his Villa side north on the opening weekend to face play-off final runners up Sheffield Wednesday.

The first home match of the campaign sees Villa entertain Rotherham at Villa Park, before Huddersfield visit the West Midlands three days later.

The first-second city derby takes place at St Andrews on Saturday 29th October, with the return fixture scheduled to take place on Saturday 22nd April.

The traditional boxing day sees Villa play at home, as they have done in three of the past four seasons, with newly promoted Burton Albion the visitors to Villa Park.

The campaign concludes with a visit from Brighton and Hove Albion, who will no doubt want to go one step further this season and finally achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile Sky Sports have announced that Villa’s first game away to Sheffield Wednesday will be on TV, with the fixture re-scheduled for Sunday 7th August at 4:30pm.

It has also been announced that Villa will face Luton in the first round of the newly named EFL Cup, with the game taking place in the week following the first round of Championship games.
