Idrissa Gueye could be on his way out of Villa Park, after a year after he arrived from Lille.
The Birmingham Mail are reporting that French radio station RMC have linked the Senegal international with a move back to France, with Marseille rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services.
Gueye, who arrived last summer for £9M from Lille as part of Villa’s spending spree following the sales of Benteke and Delph, occasionally performed well in a team that struggled to put a decent performance together throughout the season.
It is reported that a loan move would be preferred by Gueye, but with his wages around the £50,000 a week mark, Villa are interested in moving him on permanently as they look to cut a bloated wage bill ahead of next season.
If Villa can recoup the majority of the fee they paid for Gueye, then it should be seen as good business, as Roberto Di Matteo looks to build his own team ahead of what promises to be a difficult season.
