Villa defender praises academy graduates

Joe Bennett praised the impact of academy graduates Andre Green and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, after the two impressed during the draw against Bristol Rovers.

Bennett, who is re-establishing himself at Villa after spending the previous two seasons on loan, praised the duo after they caused the Bristol Rovers defence numerous problems at the Memorial Ground.

Both players have already made their competitive debuts for Villa, with Tim Sherwood giving Hepburn-Murphy his debut whilst Remi Garde gave Green his debut. Both players will want to ensure that they are a part of Di Matteo’s thoughts for the season ahead as Villa aim to get promoted.

Speaking to Villa’s official website after the 1-1 draw with the Sky Bet League One side, the former Middlesbrough left-back said:

I think they’ve both been really impressive.

Andre and Rushian were really good against Bristol Rovers, who are a decent, physical side.

They’re only young and will improve the more they play with the senior side.

Bennett also spoke about the impact the new arrivals have had on the squad, with Aaron Tibshola singled out as being particularly impressive since his arrival from Reading.

Aaron has looked really impressive, he’s so calm on the ball.
