Gardner: I’m ready to make my mark

Gary Gardner insists that he is ready to finally make his mark at Villa, four and a half since making his Villa debut.

Since the Villa academy graduate was handed his debut by Alex McLeish in December 2011, he has only made 13 more appearances for Villa after being beset by injuries.

He made his last appearance for Villa in May 2013, as Villa drew 2-2 with Wigan. Since then, the 24-year-old has spent significant time injured and away on loan at other clubs.

However, Gardner believes that his time in the Championship which has included loan spells with Brighton and Nottingham Forest, will set him in good stead as Villa aim for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Speaking to Villa’s website, the academy graduate said:

I’ve had a couple of years now in the Championship.

I’ve played 60 games so probably more than anyone else here.

I’m used to that division and I’ve played a lot of games. I can definitely contribute here.

I want to play and be a big player here. I’m 24 now and ready to make my mark.

He also spoke about Villa’s chances of promotion this season, with the 24-year-old believing that Villa have the quality to get promoted.

The new manager has come in, he’s been very confident.

Everyone is looking forward to the new season.

It was tough for the boys last year but I know this year they’ll be fine.

I’ve played in the Championship and we have enough quality to get back out of there.

Every team has a difficult period but I think we’ll be alright and hopefully we should bounce straight back.
