Di Matteo: Luton will be looking for an upset

Roberto Di Matteo has warned his side that Luton will be looking for an upset in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Di Matteo takes his side to Kenilworth Road on Wednesday night, with the Italian keen to get his first win as Villa boss after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Luton, who play in League Two, get their season off to a winning start at the weekend, as they won 3-0 against Plymouth and Di Matteo knows that the Bedfordshire side will be keen to pull off a shock victory on Wednesday night.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said:

It’s a typical cup game where they will be looking for an upset.

It will be a good atmosphere, under the lights and with the television cameras there.

They will want to beat us in front of their own fans.

He also confirmed that he will make changes from the side that played against Sheffield Wednesday, with Aaron Tshibola, Jack Grealish and Jordan Amavi all pushing for starts after starting on the bench at the weekend.

We will look at using and utilizing the squad so there will be a few changes for Wednesday.

Never mind the fixture list, it’s also a case of looking at how the players came through the game on Sunday and whether they are available to play.

Rudy Gestede, Gary Gardner and Aly Cissokho could all find themselves being dropped after poor performances on Sunday.
