According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are set to hijack Wigan’s move for Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford.
The 23-year-old has struggled in previous loan spells with Crystal Palace and Norwich in the Premier League but was named the Championship player of the year with Middlesbrough in 2015.
It was claimed that the Villains were poised to sign the England youth international on a season-long loan but since then the Latics have made a £3m bid to sign Patrick Bamford on a permanent basis.

It’s unknown yet whether Villa will be going in with a permanent transfer bid like Wigan have, but the Birmingham Mail believe they will usurp them in the pursuit of the former Derby loanee.
Bamford moved from Nottingham Forest to Chelsea in 2011 but has not been able to kick on with his career, mostly due to the sheer amount of financial backing the club receives from owner Roman Abramovich. With strikers such as Diego Costa Michy Batshuayi already at the club and Romelu Lukaku targeted it certainly spells the end for Bamford’s Chelsea career.
