Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is poised to leave the club in the coming days, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Having failed to impress fans with performances last season, boss Roberto Di Matteo has decided that Veretout does not feature in his plans.
It appears that Veretout’s claret-and-blue career is over, with a return to his homeland the preferred destination.
The Frenchman was already concerned that the arrival of midfield duo Mile Jedinak and Aaron Tshibola would negatively affect his game-time and Di Matteo’s concerns about his ability have added to his woes.
Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne are said to be leading the race for his signature, and they hope to complete a deal before the transfer window slams shut next Wednesday.
Villa are hoping to recoup the £9m that they paid Nantes for him last summer, but could be forced to lose money with just days of the transfer window left.
Veretout will depart the club having appeared 29 times for the Villains in all competitions, but failing to score from midfield.
