Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has revealed that former owner Randy Lerner told him the current Villans squad was good enough when he sold the club to the Chinese businessman.
Xia took to Twitter to reveal how Lerner had told him the current squad was good enough despite relegation from the Premier League with only 17 points.
Twitter: I was told by RL the squad was good enough before takeover. Now it’s close to good enough with one more week’s work! https://t.co/baq8cLP6xG (@Dr_TonyXia)
In a clear lie from Lerner, Xia said that the squad was now currently ‘close’ to being good enough with some more work still to be done before the window shuts a week on Wednesday.
Dr Tony Xia’s Recon Group took over the Championship side in June from Lerner who spent ten years at the helm before selling in perhaps their worst season in modern time as they were relegated.
The club has gone under a mass rebuild this summer with seven new players moving for various fees including today’s purchase of Ritchie De Laet from Leicester City.
