Shearer: Steve Bruce has held talks with Aston Villa

According to Alan Shearer, the hot-pick to be Aston Villa’s next manager, Steve Bruce, has held talks with the club over assuming the role.

Dr. Tony Xia dismissed Roberto Di Matteo earlier this month after just one win from their opening 11 Championship fixtures which sees them looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone rather than ahead at the promotion places.

So, the search is on to find Villa’s fifth manager in just 12 months and former Hull boss Steve Bruce is the bookies favourite to succeed the Italian.

Bruce resigned as Hull manager just before the start of the 2016/17 season and could be the man to take Villa back to the Premier League.

Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t Birmingham Mail), Alan Shearer has claimed that Bruce has held talks with the Villa hierarchy over becoming their new manager.

“Well he’s spoke to them. How the talks have gone I haven’t got a clue but it’s not surprising that the big clubs will want Brucey because when you look at his record for bringing clubs up from the Championship it is second to none.

Shearer believes it’s a “no-brainer” for Villa to hire a manager of Steve Bruce’s calibre and experience.

“It’s a no-brainer that club will want to hire him and it depends whether he can go in and do things his own way.

“Again, when you look at how much has been spent by Aston Villa in the summer it’s an absolute fortune. So he’ll want more funds if he was to go in there.”

Only time will tell if they can strike a deal with the experienced manager.
