Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has defended Jack Grealish after the winger was suspended by the FA for three games after a stamp on Conor Coady vs Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Speaking after his side’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Reading on Tuesday night Bruce spoke about how the winger had been ‘unfortunate’ and how the incident was seen in plenty of different lights.
Grealish will miss the all important local derby vs Birmingham City at the end of the month for his involvement in a melee vs Wolves and it isn’t the first time he has got into trouble this season.
I thought he was a little bit unlucky. I didn’t think it was that bad. Others have seen it in a different way.
Coady was booked during the incident so will not face any retrospective punishment for his part but now Grealish will miss the upcoming game against Fulham as well as Blues and Reading last night.
We all know the ability he has but you need more than just ability to go and survive at the top level these days.
He has had a promising start to the season in a Villa shirt with two goals to his name in what has been a far from easy start with the tabloids often having Grealish’s name on the front page not the back pages.
Especially with the spotlight which is on every player. Jack has been talked about for the wrong reasons too often. I think he is a little bit unfortunate in this case.
