Steve Bruce welcomes his former side to Villa Park today, as he seeks to continue Villa’s unbeaten record at home this season.
Last time out, Villa suffered their first defeat under Bruce, as a change of personnel and formation failed to pay dividends and resulted in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Leeds at Elland Road.
This weekend’s opponents, Wigan, only lost once during their eight trips to Villa Park in the Premier League and the recently appointed Warren Joyce will be hoping his side can continue their good record at Villa Park.
However, Wigan have struggled so far this season, with the Latics currently residing in 23rd place in the Championship table having only accumulated 18 points from 19 games. Wigan’s poor start to the season has already resulted in former Manchester United reserve boss Warren Joyce taking over from Gary Caldwell, who led Wigan to promotion from League One last season,
Villa have positive news on the injury front, with Ross McCormack having returned to full fitness after an ankle injury. However, Nathan Baker and Mark Bunn will miss the visit of Wigan having also missed last weekend’s defeat to Leeds.
A win for Villa could potentially rise up to 11th in the table, as Steve Bruce looks to put Villa back in the race for a play-off spot.
