Aston Villa want to strengthen their attacking options in January and have identified Middlesbrough’s Jordan Rhodes as the man they want to do just that.
Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is eager to move Rhodes on in January in order to finance his own moves but they’re looking to recoup as much of the £11m they paid for the Scotsman back in February.
The Telegraph are reporting that the £11m asking price is putting Villa off of making a move for Rhodes next month and that Steve Gibson’s demands may make negotiating with Middlesbrough tough to overcome.
Rhodes netted six times in 18 appearances for ‘Boro last season in their promotion bid but has made just six appearances for the club this term and appears set to leave the club.
Middlesbrough are interested in signing Villa striker Rudy Gestede in January amid talk of a £6.5m move. The Benin international could be used as a bargaining chip of sorts in any deal for Rhodes.
