BBC journalist Pat Murphy has provided updates on several possible deals that could take place at Villa Park over the January transfer window, via his personal Twitter account.
Murphy has said that misfiring Villa forward Rudy Gestede is not necessarily on his way out of the club in January as the club wouldn’t mind keeping him as cover when other players depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Furthermore, the BBC journalist says that out of favour Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes will not be coming to Villa Park as a result of the reportedly unreasonable amount of money Boro are asking for.
In other news, Murphy also claimed that Villa are still looking to bring in Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone who Mourinho recently stated to be the only player he was willing to let go out on loan this January, perhaps in anticipation of this transfer taking place.
Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson is also reportedly on Steve Bruce’s radar, but any potential deal has hit a snag over the fact that Villa are only willing to take the Englishman on loan, whereas Arsenal would rather sell him on a permanent basis.
Villa also face competition from several Premier League clubs for Jenkinson’s signature, as a result of his relative experience in the league whilst at Arsenal and during successive loan spells at West Ham.
