Aston Villa’s search for a new striker has reached a dead end on Teeside.
After dealing with Middlesbrough during the sale of Rudy Gestede earlier this month, Villa were hoping to strike a deal with the Premier League club for one of their other forwards, Jordan Rhodes.
However, after seeing an initial £6m offer knocked back for the Scottish striker, Steve Bruce’s side are now unlikely to go in with another bid for Rhodes and move onto other targets, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Middlesbrough shelled out £10m to bring Rhodes to club 12 months ago from Blackburn to bolster their successful promotion campaign but so far this season, he’s featured in just six Premier League games.
Rhodes will be allowed to leave the Riverside this month if a club meets Boro’s £10m valuation of the 26-year-old which Villa are unwilling to do.
With Ross McCormack seemingly set to leave Villa Park before next week’s transfer deadline, Villa are in a race against the clock to bring in a striker to replace him and the already departed Gestede.
