Aston Villa appear to be closing in on their third signing of the January transfer window.
After welcoming Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan until the end of the season and Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury in a £2.75m deal to the club this month, Barnsley defender James Bree could be the latest to move to Villa Park.
According to Sky Sports, Bree’s move to Aston Villa is at an advanced stage and the deal should be completed within the next 24 hours and possibly even be announced today.
The 19-year-old right-back has caught the eye of several clubs this season with his impressive displays for Barnsley but the Tykes are resigned to losing another bright young defender after watching John Stones and Mason Holgate leave the club for Everton in recent years.
Bree isn’t the only Barnsley player who could be on his way to Villa Park this month as midfielder Conor Hourihane has also been heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa, but a deal for him isn’t as near a completion.
