The striker situation at Villa Park is a bit of a mess at the moment.
After Ross McCormack was banished to train with the U23s after skipping training because his electric gate wouldn’t open, the Scot’s future with the club is in doubt as Steve Bruce doesn’t have time for his attitude.
A move to Fulham has fallen through but there is interest from Sunderland, Hull, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday in his signature.
There’s no doubt that Bruce is after another striker and the Birmingham Mail are reporting that Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom, who is a target of Villa’s, will be allowed to leave the Emirates on loan this month after overcoming a shoulder injury.
Akpom rose through the Arsenal academy and broke into the Gunners first-team in 2013, making his first-team debut in the Premier League against Sunderland. However, since then he’s only made 10 appearances for the club in a career which has been dominated by loan moves.
The England U21 international has had spells with Brentford, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest before last season on loan under Steve Bruce at Hull City where he scored seven goals in 41 appearances during their promotion campaign.
Bruce is clearly a big fan of Akpom and is eager to bring him in at Villa to alleviate the pressure on Jonathan Kodjia who is currently away at the African Cup of Nations.
