Aston Villa Player Ratings: Barnsley (H)

Steve Bruce was brought in to Aston Villa to rescue the season and hopefully make a push to the playoffs, but Villa now find themselves a staggering 19 points behind sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday after they lost 3-1 at home to Barnsley.

Rather than looking up, there’ll now be Villa fans looking backwards as, and this is quite scary given the recent run, the club are only seven points ahead of 22nd placed Wigan Athletic.

The game actually started pretty brightly for Villa but it started to go wrong in the 25th minute when Jordan Amavi was penalised for a foul on Marley Watkins in the area and Adam Armstrong converted from the spot.

Tom Bradshaw’s effort from around 15 yards then put the visitors 2-0 up but Jonathan Kodjia’s finish from a tight angle just moments later gave the home side some hope.

However, just 13 minutes after the break, Bradshaw’s second goal of the game knocked the stuffing out of Villa and that was pretty much that.

Here are my Villa player ratings from the game:
